Astarte's DVDExport Xtra (Press release)

ASTARTE DVDExport™ is an amazing and unique tool which converts a standard Macromedia® Director® presentation into a DVD-Video. It delivers on the promise of DVD by allowing you to easily create hybrid DVD titles which play equally well on a computer or DVD-Video player. At last, you can transform your Director projects into something that doesn’t require a computer to play.

Now you don’t have to choose between creating a DVD-ROM or a DVD-Video; you can do both, with virtually no additional effort. DVDExport is a Macromedia Director Xtra™, which extends Director’s functionality to include DVD creation. Using the interface and workflow that you already know, you can create a complete, interactive application including graphically rich menus. You can play back your DVD application at any time to test interactivity and flow. When you’re satisfied with the results, exporting to DVD is just a click away.

The Xtra does everything for you, from importing the assets to multiplexing the DVD-Video files. The result is a DVD-Video file structure, ready to be written to a DVD-R or to be replicated. With DVDExport, you can create your entire DVD project from within Director, or use Director to create files which can be imported into ASTARTE DVDirector for further refinement. DVDExport supports cast members in the form of bitmaps, rich text and shapes. Its Link Asset Xtra allows you to specify which external video or audio file will play within the completed DVD. DVDExport automatically analyzes your movie to determine the appropriate transformation for the lingo scripts. The included Remote Control Xtra allows you to emulate the behavior of sprites within your project and use your QuickTime source files during preview which are replaced later with the compressed files.

When a project is completed, it can be built into a DVD from within DVDExport, or you can choose to export menu graphics (in the form of multi-layer Photoshop files) and a text description file which can be imported into DVDirector. (This is useful for adding advanced DVD features like region coding, subtitles and DVD scripting, which cannot be generated within MacroMedia Director.)

DVDExport delivers two previously impossible functions: it allows you to translate Director projects into DVD-Video titles, and it lets you use Director for creating new DVD-Video projects. Finally it’s possible to get into DVD production without the incredible expense and learning curve associated with other systems. And because it’s from ASTARTE, you can count on it being easy to use and reliable!
