Integration New Media
announces PDF Xtra for Macromedia Director ®
New Software Component
Helps Integrate Adobe Acrobat Documents to Macromedia Director
[May 25, 1999] Integration New Media today announced an Xtra that
extends Macromedia Director with new members of type Adobe Acrobat
without requiring Lingo scripting. Like Director's native members,
the new Acrobat members blend to Director's stage and can be used
as regular sprites.
The PDF Xtra joins the best of Director's and Acrobat's worlds:
it integrates high-quality, precise and printable Acrobat documents
into Director's immersive and multimedia-rich environment.
Acrobat members can easily be created by applications that support
Adobe Distiller or PDFwriter. When embedded to Director movies,
they preserve all their attributes, such as interactivity, hyperlinks,
embedded fonts, annotations, etc.
"The PDF Xtra opens new possibilities for the publishing of
sales & marketing tools, training material, electronic books,
reference material, on-line help, forms, data sheets, etc., in a
fast, easy and affordable way", said Renee De Gagne, vice-president
and marketing manager of Integration New Media, Inc. "Our constant
research into customer needs for multimedia development helped us
define this new business opportunity for them".
"Although Director 7's new Text member is great for displaying
animated, editable and anti-aliased texts, it falls short of the
PDf Xtra when it comes to properly laying-out content, complete
with inline graphics, wrapping multiple columns of text, and getting
printouts that are identical to the screen display", said Michael
Geary, president of Network Publishing (Provo, Utah).
"Furthermore, PDF documents can be produced at a fraction of
the cost of frames that contain Text members."
"Our clients have been asking us to incorporate print content
into interactive multimedia for some time. Using PDFs has proven
to be a reliable way to move Quark content to the screen. With the
PDF Xtra, we at last have a clean solution for integrating those
PDFs into Director", " said Mike Edson, lead multimedia
developer at Mazer Digital Media (Boston, MA). "We've relied
on Integration New Media for several of our products and are looking
forward to using this new Xtra in many more."
The PDF Xtra features identical interfaces on both MacOS and Windows,
and dynamically adapts to the end-user's Acrobat or Acrobat Reader
configuration. Advanced Acrobat features can be scripted through
Lingo. It is compatible to Shockwave, contains a Verisign certificate,
and thus can be auto-downloaded from the Internet.
Pricing and Availability
The PDf Xtra will be available in July 1999 for Windows 95/98, Windows
NT 4.0, and MacOS 7.5 or later. It requires Macromedia Director
5, 6 or 7 and Acrobat or Acrobat Reader 4.0. It can be purchased
directly from Integration New Media at $299. Special introductory
offer: $199. The full specifications are available at http://www.integrationnewmedia.com/products/pdfdirector.
V12 Media Converter
[March 9, 1999] Since
MacroMedia has revised the way it stores media beginning with D7,
V12 database's that were created using any previous version of Director
will not display
their media contents in D7.
To remedy this situation, INM presents a free Media Converter that
will automatically convert your old V12 database's media content
into D7 format - with no Lingo
scripting required at all! Download from: http://www.integrationnewmedia.com/support/v12director/technotes/tn001-300-002.htm
