Ravware OpenGL-Xtra für
Windows public beta
[Dezember 14,1999] The
RavWare
OpenGL Xtra gives Director developers the ability to use the OpenGL
API from Director. The Xtra supports more than 250 functions that
can add 3D and 2D effects to create everything from real time 3D
games, texture mapped 3D text, to any shape imaginable. The Xtra
can be used in scientific and medical visualization applications
and add unique charting effects to create stunning photorealistic
images. Screen savers created with Director can take on a completely
new
look and do things previously impossible in Director. The thousands
of lines of free source code in games and tools that already exist
and the 10+ books on OpenGL make the API easy to use and understand.
The Xtra can use bitmap cast members as textures. Also, the Xtra
provides the ability to use OpenGL to render to a memory buffer,
save to a image file, or render the OpenGL output to a sprite cast
member. You can also treat the OpenGL output as you would any sprite
object including ink effects, and optionally Director 7's new quad
and skew features.
The Xtra allows the developer to decide at runtime which OpenGL
implementation to use. They can choose to link to the hardware accelerated
Microsoft OpenGL implementation or the Silicon Graphics
software optimized Cosmo library or any OpenGL compliant library.
The Xtra will work for D6, D6.5, D7, and D7.02 applications.
The Xtra is currently only available for Win32 platforms with
an estimated Mac release in Mid February 2000.
Ravware Glue32-Xtra für
Macintosh (public beta)
[Dezember 11,1999] RavWare
and updateStage are pleased to announce the GLU32 Xtra for Macintosh
PowerPC public beta. The GLU32 Xtra allows Director applications
to make calls to shared libraries and the Mac Toolbox directly from
Lingo.
GLU32 Xtra for Mac/PowerPC
combined with the GLU32 for WinTel Xtra provides a faster and much
less expensive method for enhancing Director than creating a cross-platform
Xtra or paying for custom Xtra development. Instead of investing
time learning the Macromedia Xtra API, the developer need only create
a DLL on Windows and a corresponding shared library on Mac. With
some care, the two can be created so that the calling syntax from
Director is virtually identical on both platforms.
The GLU32 Xtra has been
designed to be small, efficient, and very fast. It gives developer's
the ability to access the countless functions provided in the Mac
Toolbox and custom or third party shared libraries.
The GLU32 Xtra for Macintosh
demo contains full documentation and a sample Director Movie. It
can be downloaded from either
http://www.updatestage.com
or

The final release version is scheduled for release in the first
week of January 2000.
Announce New Xtra for
Image Export
[September 20, 1999] RavWare
is pleased to announce the RavWare Image Export Xtra v1.0. The RavWare
Image Export Xtra provides Director developers the ability to save
a cast member or the Stage to one of several supported graphic file
formats at runtime and dynamically change the dimensions or bit
depth of the exported image. The Xtra is completely self contained
and does not require any other Xtra. A developer can save the complete
cast member or Stage to a file or specify a part of the image to
export. It supports multiple compression codecs and every possible
bit depth. The Xtra supports many common and uncommon bit depths
and compression codecs because all the code was created and hand
optimized by RavWare for use in Director. The Xtra squeezes every
last byte out of the image and consistently leads to the smallest
possible files. The Xtra can also export from and to external sources
such as the clipboard or other Xtras. The supported file formats
include JPEG, PNG, TIFF, CUR, ICO, BMP/DIB, RLE , TGA and others.
The Xtra only uses patent free technologies so your application
is safe from the fees and legal hassles that licensing these patents
correctly cost. The Image Export Xtra was designed from the ground
up to be the fastest, smallest, and most versatile Image Exporting
Xtra available at under 200kb.
A demo containing the
Xtra, documentation, tutorial can be downloaded from: http://www.ravware.com/imageexport.htm
Ravware PPViewer Xtra
[August 1999] The RavWare
PPViewer Xtra allows Director applications to control Microsoft®
PowerPoint Viewer 97. The Xtra can retrieve how many slides are
in a presentation, query what the current slide is , jump to a specific
slide, or step forward or backward between slides. Also, the Xtra
provides the ability to be notified when the slide show presentation
exits. You can also resize or move either the Viewer or Stage. The
Xtra links to and controls
the PowerPoint Viewer engine directly so complex and error prone
scripting can be avoided. The PPViewer Xtra gives Director developers
complete control over PowerPoint Presentations using Viewer. more...
Ravware's Winshaper Xtra
[March 26, 1999] RavWare
is pleased to announce the RavWare WinShaper Xtra v1.0. The RavWare
WinShaper Xtra allows Director developers to change the shape of
the display window for a projector. The projector can be reshaped
into an elliptical, polygonal, textual, or spline shaped window.
Complex outlines can be traced from a monochrome bitmap mask. Stage
borders can be completely removed and the projector window's corners
can be rounded. These primitives can also be combined to form a
complex final window. The Xtra allows developers to add a user defined
activation area using the same shape primitives to act as a handle
bar for dragging the projector. The Xtra provides the ability to
add system level "fire and forget" ToolTips that extend past the
boundary of your projector. With the Winshaper you can remove the
application's icon on the Taskbar. The Winshaper Xtra gives you
the ability to customize your projector window to a shape more appropriate
and natural to your application's theme for unique Director applications.
A demo containing the WinShaper Xtra, documentation, tutorial, and
sample D6 and D7 movies can be downloaded from: http://www.ravware.com/winshape.htm
